Do you like mashed potatoes? So do I.

Thanksgiving is one week away, and everyone is looking for the perfect side dish (THIS IS ONE OF MANY), and to be honest, you cannot go wrong with this mashed potatoes recipe. Simple, quick and SCRUMPTIOUS!

You see… I have a pet peeve (I know most people have one at some point in their lives) mine is tasteless and dry mashed potatoes.  Sometimes when we make small changes we can obtain great results. For example: making sure you evenly cut your potatoes.  Heat up your milk or heavy cream before adding it to the mashed potatoes, this could  make a huge difference.

Heavy Cream, thyme, garlic, and butter in sauce pan

I remember while in Culinary School we had to make mashed potatoes. I had this amazing instructor who gave us a few tricks that I’ll share with you because sharing is caring, ok! After learning this tricks I was like whoah! Where have I been?  for real! I wish I knew all of those tricks before. I tried so many times to achieve the perfect mashed potatoes , but for some reason, it was always grainy and tasteless.

How do you avoid grainy mashed potatoes?

Make sure you evenly cut the potatoes, and start the potatoes in cold water (this makes a huge difference).

Here are some things to consider before making mashed potatoes:

  1. Cut your potatoes evenly.
  2. Start your potatoes in cold water.
  3. Heat up the heavy cream and melt the butter.
  4. Use a mashed potato masher.

Finally, the most wonderful time of the year is approaching. I can’t wait for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Although I believe we should not wait for a day in specific to be thankful. We should be thankful every day. What are you thankful for?
